Gaia Overview

Gaia Artist Rendering

Gaia, nestled in beautiful Asheville North Carolina, offers its residents the opportunity to live in an urban village community while residing in state-of-the-art Green Built homes.

Traditional villages in Europe and colonial America were typically small, consisting of 5 to 30 families. Homes were situated together for sociability and security, and land surrounding the living quarters was farmed. The Industrial Revolution caused many villages to grow into towns and cities. Villages have thus been eclipsed in importance as units of human society and settlement.

Gaia’s residents will be able to recapture the village lifestyle. Gaia consists of 15 homes surrounding a central courtyard, a communal organic garden and a meditation garden by Rhododendron Creek. The community will be connected to the larger West Asheville neighborhood and will be within close proximity to the Haywood Road commercial district and West Asheville Park.

All of the homes will be Green Built to ensure energy efficiency and healthy indoor air quality. The creator of the community, Eco Concepts Development, LLC, is employing Vandemusser Design to perform Healthy Built and Energy Star Certifications on the homes. The homes will also utilize renewable energy in the form of solar hot water, which will be used for radiant floor heat as well as domestic hot water.

Named after the Greek goddess of the earth and an ecological theory that the earth is one living organism, the residents of Gaia will enjoy the best of old-world community and new-world sustainable living.

Gaia is the second Green Built courtyard cluster of Eco Concepts Development. Previewing their first, Hudson Cottages, will help give you better insight to the unique nature of Gaia.
